Lyrics -
Hooray for Holyrood
There's a house in Edinburgh
Where the chosen people go
Who they are and why they go there
No one really knows
Wooden sticks to hide the windows
Granite walls and flags of blue
One-two-nine elected members
But I don't know what they do.
Chorus
Hooray for Holyrood
It's where it happens, or at least it should
It ain't that bad but, hell, it ain't that good
Hooray for Holyrood
Half a billion pounds and counting
For this oak and concrete maze
And so many water features
I could paddle there for days
They tell us it's fantastic
But every Scotsman knows
That fairytale so fitting…
"The Emperor's new clothes"
See our noble representatives
Pontificating there
It's easy to mistake them
For people who care
We voted for their eloquence
But sadly I must tell
They never read the words
"Say but little say it well"
Our Parliament's in Holyrood
Well what is in a name
This is not Los Angeles
They've mixed it up again
Hollyrood or Hollywood
Two countries I must say
One has lousy actors
The other's in the USA
Hooray
for Holyrood
